Overview
The Planning Division is the liaison to residents, homeowners, businesses, and developers for all zoning functions of the City. The Division is responsible for Current and Advanced Planning, Historic Preservation and Public Art in the City. In order to improve the quality of life for people who live, work and shop in the City, the Division implements goals, objectives, and policies contained in the General Plan, Development Code, Specific Plans and other Long Range Plans. The Advance Planning initiatives undertaken help the City meet future needs while the Current Planning functions help advance the day-to-day services detailed below. In addition, the Planning Division provides technical support to the Planning Commission, Art in Public Places Commission, Cultural and Historic Preservation Commission and Development Review Committee.
Division Services
The Planning Division is responsible for a variety of services. Some of those services include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Residential Projects
- Review room additions
- Review patio/accessory structures
- Review small and large housing development projects
- Commercial & Industrial Projects
- Review Sign plans and other entitlements
- Review façade improvements – including painting
- Review small and large new commercial and industrial projects
- New Businesses
- Review proposed land use and business hours
- Provide zoning clearance and approve Business License

Submittal Information
All planning inquiries, applications and requests should be submitted online by emailing planning@azusaca.gov you may submit the following to the Planning Division:
Over-the-Counter Review: Clearance for small room additions less than 30% of the existing building footprint, tenant improvements, and some Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU).
Online Submittal should include:

- Attach Site Plan, Floor Plan, Elevations
Planning Entitlements: Design Review (DR), Use Permit (UP), Minor Use Permit (MUP), Temporary Use Permit (TUP), etc.
