Visa Renewals without an interview are no longer available
Visa renewals without an interview at the U.S. Embassy are not currently available. All applicants must schedule an appointment for a consular interview to apply for a U.S. visa.
As of February 18, 2025:
The Department of State has updated the categories of applicants that may be eligible for a waiver of the nonimmigrant visa interview. Consular officers have the authority and discretion to waive the in-person interview for the following categories as outlined in the Immigration and Nationality Act section 222(h):
- Applicants classifiable under the visa symbols A-1, A-2, C-3 (except attendants, servants, or personal employees of accredited officials), G-1, G-2, G-3, G-4, NATO-1 through NATO-6, or TECRO E-1;
- Applicants for diplomatic- or official-type visas; and
- Applicants who previously held a visa in the same category that expired less than 12 months prior to the new application.
To be eligible for an interview waiver, applicants must also meet certain criteria, including that they:
- apply in their country of nationality or residence;
- have never been refused a visa (unless such refusal was overcome or waived); and
- have no apparent or potential ineligibility.
Consular officers may still require in-person interviews on a case-by-case basis or because of local conditions. We encourage applicants to check embassy and consulate websites for more detailed information about visa application requirements and procedures, and to learn more about the embassy or consulate’s operating status and services.

If you choose to renew your nonimmigrant visa through the visa interview waiver program, it can take up to twenty-one (21) days to process your application. Case that may require additional administrative processing may also take much longer. Once you submit your passport and visa application for adjudication, be prepared to be without your passport until your case is finalized.
Urgent or emergency passport withdraw requests will be evaluated on a case by case basis, and it may take up to one week for passports to be returned. If you withdraw your passport before processing is complete, this will disrupt your visa adjudication and additional time will be necessary to complete your dropbox application. Please email support-bangladesh@usvisascheduling.com to request to withdraw your passport.
- Determine your eligibility by reviewing the interview waiver criteria.
- Submit the visa application package at your pre-selected document drop-off location.
The visa interview waiver application package must include:
- confirmation page of online DS-160 form,
- drop-box confirmation letter,
- CGI cash deposit slip (MRV fee receipt),
- a passport valid for six months beyond the period of intended stay in the United States,
- a photo should be uploaded to the online DS-160 form. Please see the photo requirements here, and
- any documents relevant to the visa categories as listed here.
Depending on the type of visa being applied for, other materials may be required.

Note: crew members who only possess a C1/D visa and have never held a B1/B2 visa must schedule an in-person interview if they wish to receive a B1/B2 visa.
