Passport Fees Calculator

Effective September 9, 2024, all passport fees can be paid online!

Paying online by using the U.S. government’s secure payment site will reduce the wait time during your appointment. You must print your payment confirmation page (which shows the transaction details) and bring it to your appointment (children, first-passport after the age of 16, replacement of lost/stolen passports) or send it with the mail-in application (adult renewals only). We strongly encourage you to not use our appointment system for renewing adult passports if you are eligible to submit your application by courier or use our drop-off box.

Pay in-person at your appointment. You may pay cash in U.S. dollars or Bulgarian leva or by credit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and Diners. Personal checks are not accepted.
Please Note: The Application Fee is a non-refundable processing fee and is retained by the Department of State whether or not the passport is issued.

Appointments

We open new online appointments about six weeks in advance and reopen canceled appointments daily. Please continue to check our website for availability.

American Citizen Services unit provides appointments for passport services and notary services only. We strongly encourage you to not use our appointment system for renewing adult passports if you are eligible to pay online and submit your application by courier.

 

Security Information

Arrive at the Embassy 15 minutes prior to your appointment to allow time to get through embassy security.

Prohibited Items

To help speed up the security process and avoid being denied entrance into the Embassy, do not bring the following prohibited items:

  • Backpacks
  • Large bags
  • Electronic equipment
  • Laptops
  • Tablets
  • Dangerous items
  • Bottles
  • Food
  • Sealed envelopes
  • Sprays, perfumes and other liquids

The security guards cannot store or keep prohibited items for you.

Parking

There is no parking lot on the Embassy grounds. We recommend you use public transportation or a taxi as it can be difficult to find street parking near the Embassy.

The streets around the Embassy are part of the paid Green Zone.  If you choose to come by car, please be advised that you will not have access to your phone in the waiting room of the Consular section and you should use paper parking coupons. Reasonable Accommodation

If you need reasonable accommodation for your appointment, we encourage you to request your accommodation immediately once you schedule your appointment. We make every effort to provide accommodations to persons with disabilities and medical conditions. Reasonable accommodations vary, depending on the situation and the person’s needs.
Examples of accommodations include, but are not limited to:

  • If you require a private appointment due to a medical condition or disability, we may schedule an alternative time for you to come in for your interview.
  • If you or your child has special needs that requires a private appointment in a quiet space without distractions, we may schedule an alternative time for you or your family to come in for your interview.
  • If you are unable to speak, you may be allowed to respond to questions in an agreed-upon nonverbal manner such as using pen and paper.
  • If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you may bring a sign language interpreter to translate during the interview if needed.
  • If you have low vision, we may provide you with communications in large print.

If you are unable to provide fingerprints because of a medical condition, including birth defects, physical deformities, skin conditions, you may qualify for a fingerprint waiver for certain fingers.

  • Interview waivers are only granted in extreme situations, such as having a medical condition that requires flying in an air ambulance.
