The American Film Showcase program exists as a partnership between the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. Programs of person-to-person cultural diplomacy bring award-winning, contemporary American documentaries, independent fiction films, and master classes to select U.S. embassies and consulates every year. Highlighting the power of film to foster dialogue and cooperation, U.S. Embassy Brasília receives the American Film Showcase by contributing to film selection, programming, and general support.

The American Music Abroad program shares the U.S.’s musical traditions with the international sphere’s arts discourse. Through a partnership with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the program’s month-long, multi-country exchanges feature public concerts, interactive performances, lecture demonstrations, media interviews, and more with musicians of characteristically American music genres. Performers and small ensembles audition for top spots in the program, with the intention to perform and foster cultural and musical exchange. U.S. Embassy Brasília happily receives the American Music Abroad program and contributes to overall selection, programing, and support.

In partnership between the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and Bang on a Can’s Found Sound Nation, OneBeat champions the power of original music as a pioneer for cultural diplomacy. Internationally talented musicians audition from all over the world, combine in the U.S. for a month-long residency and tour, and return home with musical projects creatively progressive for their societies while mutually empowering for local music-driven enterprises. U.S. Embassy Brasília participates in the selection process, honored to support and share Brazil’s stellar musicianship with the world.

As an initiative of the U.S. Department of State, the Global Sports Mentoring Program (GSMP) creates three-week mentorship experiences in the states. GSMP pairs sports leaders, advocates, executives, administrators, and educators from around the world with counterparts in the states to build mutually beneficial webs of support, tangible strategies for sports projects, and leadership aspirations.U.S. Embassy Brasília assists in the coordination of the program, including nominations of participants and overall publicity in Brazil.

The Sports Visitors Program (SVP) features fast-paced, two week-long exchanges for non-elite, young athletes and coaches to interact with American culture and society. As an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, SVP fosters dialogue on nutrition while encouraging the design and implementation of participants’ own action plans upon returning home. U.S. Embassy Brasília nominates athletes and coaches and assists in the publicity of SVP across Brazil.

The U.S. Mission offers the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) which sends current Brazilians in leadership positions to the United States for an intensive three-week program where they focus on their area of specialty and meet with senior contacts in the United States. This program is designed to build a comprehensive network of contacts in the United States in a specific field of interest.

The Community Solutions program offers four-month fellowships with U.S. nonprofit organizations and local government agencies. Selected through a competitive application process, fellows represent the cutting-edge of talented and innovative community leaders across the globe. The program designs robust leadership curriculum and customized education throughout the fellowships, after which fellows return home to utilize their new skills with community action projects. U.S. Embassy Brasília contributes to program coordination, consular proceedings, and pre-departure preparations for fellows.

The American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) offers two-week, reciprocal exchanges for approximately 25 Professional Fellows around the world to experience the international affairs of each other’s home countries. Shifting themes and destinations every year, the program forms bipartisan groups of leaders championing economic empowerment, society, civic engagement, and governance, etc. In partnership with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, ACYPL works closely with U.S. Embassy Brasília to nominate Brazil’s best and brightest leaders to the program.
