Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Notice of Training Opportunity, Closes 03/02/2026
The Embassy of the United States in Cameroon is seeking highly qualified Cameroonian secondary school teachers to participate in the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (Fulbright TEA) in 2027, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Program Components
Teachers who are selected to participate in the Fulbright TEA Program will:
1) Take part in tailored graduate-level seminars at a U.S. host university.
2) Observe classes, co-teach, and share their expertise with U.S. colleagues in U.S. secondary schools.
3) Engage in an online professional learning community with other participants to share best practices and other elements of host and home country educational systems.
4) Take part in other educational and cultural activities while in the United States.
Upon returning home, teachers will be expected to share the knowledge and experience gained on the program with teachers and students in their home schools and within their communities.
University Coursework
Weekly Seminars: Teachers will participate in weekly seminars at their host university featuring presentations and discussions led by university staff, faculty members, and invited educational experts. The Fulbright TEA Program provides academic seminars focusing on new teaching methodologies, student-centered learning, content-based instruction, lesson planning, and instructional technology training for teachers.
U.S. School Placements: The program will also include a practicum of at least 40 hours with a U.S. partner teacher in a secondary school near the host university to actively engage participants in the U.S. classroom environment. Cultural enrichment, mentoring, and support will be provided to participants throughout the program.
Online Professional Learning Community: Each Fulbright teacher will participate in a virtual community with other international educators to collaborate and share best practices about education and leadership in the participating countries.
Eligibility Criteria
1) Current secondary-level, full-time teachers of English, English as a Foreign Language (EFL), math, science, or social studies, including special education teachers in those subjects at institutions serving primarily a local population are eligible for the program.
2) Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent and have completed at least five years of full-time teaching by the start of the program.
3) Secondary-level teachers include both middle and high school teachers serving students between approximately 12 and 18 years of age.
4) Applicants must reside in the country of citizenship at the time of application and of program participation.
Please note that this is an upper-level university or graduate level academic program for practicing teachers. Educational administrators (such as representatives or officials of the Ministry of Education) and school administrators who do not teach at least fifty percent of their time, full-time teacher trainers, university faculty, private English Language tutors, and teachers from schools primarily serving expatriates are not eligible.
Applicants who have in the past five to eight years traveled to the U.S. for exchange programs such as Study of the United States Institutes (SUSI) or International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) or to other Western countries for professional development must provide strong justification as to why they should be selected to go to the U.S. for the Fulbright TEA program.

Fulbright Foreign Student Program Notice of Study Opportunity, Closes 4/20/2026
The U.S. Embassy in Cameroon is pleased to announce the open competition for the Fulbright Foreign Student Program (FFSP) for academic year 2027-2028.
Established in 1946 and funded by the U.S. government, the Fulbright Program aims to achieve mutual understanding through academic and cultural exchange. The Fulbright Foreign Student Program is a competitive, merit-based scholarship program which recruits and nominates young Cameroonian professionals for graduate level studies at U.S. universities. Each year approximately 3-5 Cameroonians are granted fully funded scholarships.
Awards are contingent upon approval by the J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board, availability of funds, and successful academic placement.
WHAT does the FFSP Scholarship provide?
- The FFSP is for candidates interested in graduate study in the United States. Priority is given to candidates pursuing a master’s degree over Ph.D. degree. Grantees receive funding for a maximum of two years of degree study.
- Successful candidates will receive a full scholarship which covers fees related to tuition, round-trip airfare to the United States, a monthly stipend, and health insurance to pursue a graduate degree program that begins in the academic year 2027-2028.
- Students accepted to degree programs less than two years are only eligible to receive funding through the designated period of degree completion – as stipulated by the host institution. Candidates in non-degree research (i.e., visiting student researchers) will participate in an academic year (9-10 months) non-degree research program.
WHO can apply?
The competition is open to people who meet the following criteria:
- Be a Cameroonian citizen, or a permanent resident holding a valid Cameroonian passport.
- Have at least the equivalent of four (4) years of university study and the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree. Applicants that have three (3) years of tertiary study should have the equivalent of thirteen (13) years of primary and secondary school and their undergraduate degree should allow them to be eligible to pursue higher education in Cameroon. Please note that final equivalency decisions will be determined by each U.S. university and not all institutions will accept a three (3) year undergraduate degree.
- Have a level of English proficiency that is sufficient to engage in full-time graduate level study in the United States. However, there is an option to do long-term English (LTE) language study for Master’s degree seeking candidates with moderate English language skills. Participation in LTE will be determined by the Embassy and program organizers based on English language ability as displayed during interviews and TOEFL test scores.
- Special accommodations are available for students with disabilities. The Department of State has provided previous grantees with a screen reader and note taking software, laptops, cell phones, canes, and/or wheelchairs to assist them while on their grant in the United States.
Ineligibility factors:
The following persons are ineligible to apply for the FFSP:
- Candidates who already received a Fulbright Foreign Student Program grant.
- Candidates who already received a Humphrey Scholarship.
- Candidates who are currently living or studying in the United States.
- Candidates who have resided in the United States for five or more consecutive years in the six-year period preceding the date of application
- Candidates who have earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree from a U.S. college or university within the last three years.
- Employees of the U.S. Mission in Cameroon employed by the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) are ineligible for grants during the period of their employment and for one year following the termination of employment. Immediate families (spouses and dependent children) of these individuals are likewise ineligible for the same period.
WHICH fields of study are supported?
The program supports study in all disciplines, with one exception—proposals for medical study involving patient contact cannot be approved under the Fulbright Program.

- Applicants accepted for long term English training must be candidates for a master’s degree in their current field. Individuals seeking D., MBA, Law, or non-degree programs are not eligible for the long-term English component.

The Public Diplomacy Section of the United States Embassy in Cameroon announces an open competition to recruit experienced secondary school educators to participate in the Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) for Secondary Educators. The SUSIs for Secondary Educators will take place over the course of five weeks between late May and early June 2026.
The overall program goals are to strengthen curricula; provide educators and administrators with resources to teach about the United States in secondary schools and other academic institutions upon their return home; and ensure that the United States is the preferred partner for educational exchanges and training opportunities. Program description
The Study of the U.S. Institutes for Secondary Educators (SUSIs) will provide experienced secondary school educators (including teachers, administrators, teacher trainers, curriculum developers, textbook writers, Ministry of Education officials, and others) with a deeper understanding of U.S. society and institutions, U.S. history, and American excellence, informing and enhancing teaching about the United States. The Institutes focus on providing content and materials for participants to develop curricula about the United States, including key readings on American historical documents and visiting U.S. historical and natural landmarks celebrating America’s great legacies.
Two of the Institutes are tailored for secondary school teachers. The third Institute is tailored for experienced administrators, including teacher trainers, curriculum developers, textbook writers, Ministry of Education officials, and others. Please note that the Institutes focus on content and materials about the United States, rather than teaching methods and pedagogy.
The four-week academic residencies will take place at U.S. educational institutions and will consist of a series of lectures, panels, seminar discussions, readings, workshops, site visits, meetings with practitioners in the field, and cultural activities. The academic field experience will complement the residency and take participants to a different region of the United States.
The program provides secondary educators with resources to teach American history upon their return home, promoting a deeper understanding of America’s founding principles, history, and achievements. Participants will learn from content related to patriotic education; key readings such as the Gettysburg Address and the American Constitution; and visiting U.S. historical and natural landmarks celebrating America’s great legacies. The program will offer multiple opportunities for follow-on engagement.
Candidate description and qualifications:
Ideal candidates come from home institutions seeking to introduce aspects of U.S. studies into their curricula, develop new courses in the Institute subject, enhance and update existing courses on the United States, or offer specialized seminars/workshops for professionals in U.S. studies areas related to the program theme. While the nominees’ scholarly and professional credentials are an important consideration, the potential impact and multiplier effect from their participation in the Institute is equally important. Ideal candidates will seek to learn about U.S. studies, with an understanding that pedagogy/teaching methods is not the focus of the program. Candidates should be mid-career, typically between the ages of 30-50, highly motivated, experienced secondary school teachers and administrators.
Candidates must demonstrate English language fluency. Institutes are rigorous and demanding programs. Participants will be expected to read and comprehend substantial reading assignments in English and to fully and actively participate in all seminar and panel discussions.

Each Institute includes a four-week academic residency and, if possible, up to two weeks of an integrated study tour to another region of the United States. Institute Themes:
The Institute on American Politics and Political Thought will provide experienced and highly motivated university faculty and practitioners insight into how intellectual and political movements have influenced American political institutions and American democracy. The Institute will cover a broad range of American experiences that have influenced and been influenced by American national identity. The Institute on Contemporary American Literature will provide experienced and highly motivated university faculty and practitioners with a deeper understanding of U.S. society and culture, past and present, through an examination of contemporary American literature. The Institute will examine how major contemporary writers, schools, and movements reflect the U.S. literary canon. The Institute will also explore the diverse communities and voices that constitute the American literary landscape and expose participants to writers who are establishing new directions for American literature. The Institute will cover a variety of contemporary American writers and writing and suggest how the themes explored reflect larger currents within contemporary U.S. society and culture.
The Institute on Journalism and Media will provide experienced and highly motivated journalism instructors and other related specialists with a deeper understanding of the roles that journalism and the media play in U.S. society. The Institute will examine the role of journalists in recognizing and preventing disinformation and will explore strategies for media and information literacy to counter disinformation. Additionally, the Institute will examine best practices in journalism by discussing the rights and responsibilities of the media in a democratic society, including editorial independence, journalistic ethics, legal constraints, and international journalism. The program will also highlight the impact of technology in journalism, including influence of the Internet, globalization of the news media, and other changes that are transforming the profession.
The Institute on U.S. Culture, Identity, and Society will provide experienced and highly motivated university faculty and other specialists with a deeper understanding of U.S. society, culture, values, and institutions through the lens of diversity and national unity. The Institute will examine the ethnic, racial, social, economic, political, and religious contexts in which various cultures have manifested in U.S. society while focusing on the ways in which these cultures have influenced social movements and American identity throughout U.S. history. The program will draw from a diverse disciplinary base and will itself provide a model of how foreign university might approach the study of American culture and society.
The Institute on U.S. Economics and Sustainable Development will provide experienced university faculty, researchers, experts and policymakers with a deeper understanding of key components and structures of the U.S. economy. Using a multidisciplinary approach, the program will explore various topics of socioeconomics; how financial institutions, investors, and businesses interact to support sustainable economic development and growth; and increasing diverse and equitable employment through institutional regulation, social inclusion strategies, and private and public policies. Throughout the Institute, participants will examine the interplay of climate change, U.S. business innovation, corporate regulation, entrepreneurship, and economic theory. Participants will have opportunities to learn about key institutions and stakeholders in the U.S. economy and meet with a diverse range of business leaders and small business owners, among others.
The Institute on U.S. Foreign Policy will provide experienced university faculty and practitioners with a deeper understanding of new approaches to U.S. foreign policy and how U.S. foreign policy is formulated and implemented. Fulbright African Research Scholar Program Grant Opportunity, Closes 05/18/2026
The U.S. Embassy in Cameroon is seeking qualified candidates for the 2027-28 Fulbright African Research Scholar Program (ARSP), also known as The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program (FVSP).
Eligibilities: Fulbright African Research Scholar Program applicants must:
- hold a Ph.D. degree
- be a Cameroonian citizen
- be proficient in English
Applicants should be university faculty, university administrators, or research institute professionals. Applicants will be expected to have a significant record of scholarly or professional accomplishment. Applicants must reside in Cameroon throughout the nomination and selection process, and they must return to Cameroon upon completion of their U.S. stay.
Applicants are ineligible to apply if:

Grant Categories:
- Research Grants
Awards of 3 to 9 months are offered for African university faculty or research institute professionals to conduct research in any academic discipline at a U.S. academic or research institution beginning no earlier than August 2027 and no later than March 2028. Applicants must hold a doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in their fields at the time of application. Postdoctoral research will not be supported under the research grant. Preference will be given to individuals who have at least three years of university teaching experience and a productive scholarly record.
- Program and Curriculum Development Grants
Awards of 3 to 5 months are offered for African university faculty or administrators to develop programs and curricula in any academic discipline at a U.S. academic or research institution beginning no earlier than August 2027 and no later than March 2028. Proposals should be linked to professional duties and demonstrate how the scholar will use the knowledge gained to develop new courses, curricula, or other academic programs at the home institution. These grants are designed for university faculty or administrators with less experience and who may not have had recent access to research or instructional developments in their disciplines.
Fields of study: Applicants of various disciplines in the social sciences and humanities, science, and technology are welcome to apply. The Fulbright Program is not appropriate for unsupervised research or academic study involving direct contact with human or animal patients, subjects, or specimens.

Program Information
The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program brings accomplished professionals and policy makers from designated countries around the world to the United States at a mid-point in their careers for a year of practical, professional development experiences and non-degree academic study. Humphrey Fellows work in critical fields to shape national policy, promote stability, and foster long-term cooperation with the United States. Fellows are placed at designated host universities to take advantage of academic, professional, and leadership enhancement activities offered by the campus setting. Candidates should understand that the program is non-degree in nature and cannot transfer from the Humphrey Program to degree status in any program. 2026 Fulbright Specialist Program: Call for Proposals
The U.S. Embassy in Cameroon invites Cameroonian institutions to submit proposals for the 2026 Fulbright Specialist Program. This U.S. Department of State initiative allows institutions around the world to host leading American academic professionals. Specialists and host institutions work together to implement a project ranging from two to six weeks. Host institutions design project goals and activities that will exchange knowledge and promote long-lasting collaboration between individuals and institutions around the world.
Project Focus and Activities
Host institutions may design projects in one of the following priority disciplines:
- American (U.S.) Studies
- Business Administration
- Communications and Journalism
- Cyberspace and Digital Technologies
- Economy and Trade
- Energy and Energy Security
- Innovation and Emerging Technology
- Law and Combating Illegal Activities
- Public Health
All projects should have an education or training focus. Specific project activities can include, but are not limited to delivering seminars or training, consulting on faculty or workforce development, developing academic or training curricula/materials, providing lectures at the graduate or undergraduate level, engaging in strategic or institutional planning, and conducting needs assessments or evaluations. Competitiveness and Funding
Proposals are reviewed on a rolling basis, and up to two may be selected each fiscal year. The most competitive submissions will present clear, realistic objectives and demonstrate their relevance to the broader Cameroonian context. The U.S. Department of State covers roundtrip international airfare, health benefits, and a daily honorarium for the Specialist, while in general, host institutions should be prepared to provide lodging, meals, and in-country transportation, either financially or in kind.
