Notes
Key to database notes:
- A: Position was read off a graph of locations and therefore is not exact.
- B: Salinity or d18O value was read off a graph. Again, it is therefore only an estimate of the measurement.
- C: Data were corrected from publication (either a sign change, or a rescaling).
- D: Correction of Epstein and Mayeda (1951) data to GEOSECS standard. dVSMOW = 1.04 dEM + 0.21 (extra +0.2 for Albatross points).
- E: Correction of SMOW data to GEOSECS standard. dVSMOW = dSMOW + 0.07.
- F: Correction of PDB data to VSMOW standard. dVSMOW = dPDB + 0.27.
- G: Calibration to standard deep water mass = +1.0
- H: Calibration to standard deep water mass = +0.3
- I: Calibration to standard deep water mass = +0.4
- J: Calibration to standard deep water mass = +0.1
- K: Salinity was interpolated from nearby stations
- L: Denotes data that is likely to be estaurine or river data from near the coast, or samples heavily influenced by meltwater.
- M: Salinity derived from Chlorinity: S = 1.80655 Cl-
- X: Denotes very anomalous data (possibly completely wrong), but also data from enclosed lagoons etc.
