PRIZES & CHALLENGES
BARDA awards prizes through competitions focused on defined public health threats
Single Shield Prize
The Single Shield Prize, administered by Luminary Labs, is an $80+ million, multi-stage competition to advance single-administration vaccine platforms for pandemic influenza A(H5N1). The competition seeks innovative solutions that enable development of recombinant hemagglutinin protein or inactivated virus vaccines that provide protection in a single visit.
ReadyDetect: Blood Sampling Competition
(Concept Stage)
$5 million competition to advance next-generation capillary blood self-collection and processing devices for point-of-need diagnostics. Seeks solutions that support diagnostic testing across BARDA priority pathogens and enable low-cost, scalable, CLIA-waivable use in both pediatric and adult populations.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
DRIVe offers a range of funding opportunities supporting research and development of solutions aligned with BARDA's mission. Explore current opportunities accepting applications.
ImmuneChip+
Seeks to support developing and characterizing of advanced in vitro platforms that replicate components of vital human tissues and the immune system and their interactions under homeostatic conditions. Submissions that qualify for this funding shall preferably focus on engineering 3-D in vitro human microphysiological systems (MPS) representing various tissues with immune component(s) integrated on a single platform.
proof of concept funding opportunities
The BARDA Accelerator Network offers funding opportunities year-round, accepting rolling application submissions but with priority deadlines.
BioTools Innovator VANGUARD: Proof-of-Concept Funding
Funding ranging from $50K-$200K for 6-month, milestone-based projects that support the development, evaluation, and validation of enabling technologies that improve drug discovery and development; increase speed, capacity, portability and scalability; and improve clinical research and clinical care coordination.
Paratus:
Proof-of-Concept Funding
Funding ranging from $50K-$200K for 4-week to 12-week, milestone-based projects that support the development, evaluation, and validation of digital health tools that enhance the nation's readiness to prepare and respond to health security threats. Uniquely, the program connects innovators with mission-aligned study sites to evaluate specific hypotheses for novel digital health MCMs.
SPARK for Innovations in Pediatrics: Proof-of-Concept Funding
Funding ranging from $50k-$200K for 6-month, milestone-based projects that support the development, evaluation, and validation of innovative medical countermeasures that can enhance health security for pediatric populations.
VITAL: Proof-of-Concept Funding
Funding ranging from $50K-$200K for 6-month, milestone-based projects that support the development, evaluation and validation of therapeutic multi-use/platform solutions in alignment with BARDA's mission to promote health security.
*For opportunities without a deadline, proposals are accepted on an ongoing basis and reviewed based on BARDA priorities and availability of funds.
