The U.S. Embassy in Madrid and U.S. Consulate in Barcelona sponsor a variety of international exchange programs each year, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA. These people-to-people exchanges are designed to enhance mutual understanding between the U.S. and other nations.

In the Public Diplomacy section, we believe in the transformative power and impact of the international experience you have had, and we are firmly committed, to supporting and accompanying alumni upon their return to their home country.

Did you know alumni have access to specialized resources?

  • Exclusive opportunities for scholarships and grants.
  • Specialized platforms to find and connect with other Exchange Alumni locally and globally.
  • Special events organized by the Embassy and Consulate for alumni.

We would love to reconnect with your alumni to better activate and strengthen the ties within the Exchange Alumni community. To do so, we created a brief survey to update alumni information and learn about your current interests. If you haven’t received this via email, please send us a message at SpainPDalumni@state.gov.

Who Can Join?

All alumni of a U.S. government-sponsored exchange program who participated in at least one of the following programs. In Spain:

Worldwide Exchange Alumni Community

Join the Exchange Alumni community portal and open the door to a world of resources and funding opportunities to help you build on the skills you gained during your exchange program: 

  • Access academic journals and articles through EBSCO, JSTOR, and Libby, among other academic and research resources through eLibraryUSA (make sure to first visit an American Space in your region to set up an account). 
  • Find and connect with fellow Exchange Alumni locally and globally. 
  • Collaborate in group discussions, search for and post upcoming career opportunities, update your alumni contact information, and more!
