Available Accommodations
The Consular Section’s waiting room is wheelchair accessible.
Applicants who need technology support may renew their passport in person by requesting this accommodation.
U.S. citizen applicants with special needs, or their parent, guardian, or caregiver, can schedule an appointment in a reduced noise environment with smaller crowd sizes.
Print our Social Story to prepare for your appointment. A social story shows social situations and may help customers who are on the autism spectrum apply at the Embassy, Consulate General, or Consular Agency.
Additional Accommodations
- If unable to speak, you may respond to questions nonverbally, such as using pen and paper.
- If deaf or hard of hearing, you may bring a sign language interpreter. Please check the following sites for free sign language interpretation services.

All minor children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Third parties, including but not limited to interpreters/translators, lawyers, guardians, healthcare aids, or witnesses, may attend passport and citizenship appointments to assist applicants.
