The United States supports international education and welcomes foreign students and exchange visitors. Before applying for a visa, students and exchange visitors must be accepted by their schools or program sponsors.

American English is a resource center for teaching and learning about American English language and culture.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program brings accomplished mid-level professionals to the United States for ten months of combined academic (Non-Degree) and professional work. Fellows are selected based on potential for leadership and commitment to public service.

The Fulbright Scholarship Program is the largest Fulbright program within Africa that provides financial assistance for a maximum of two years of study toward a graduate degree in a U.S. university, or for participation in a non-degree research or nonacademic professional program.

The U.S. Embassy in Maseru maintains a number of educational and professional development exchange programs. These exchange programs empower emerging and established Basotho leaders in diverse disciplines to further their journeys in building a better Lesotho. Many require participants to travel to the United States for a specific length of time depending on the type of program. Besides the U.S.-based programs, the U.S. Embassy regularly hosts in-person and virtual development programs through its American Corner at the State Library in Maseru.

The program supports community groups who support community-based HIV and AIDS care, and Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) initiatives. Preference will be given to groups that support key and priority populations.

This grant is for programs that strengthen cultural ties between the U.S. and the Kingdom of Lesotho through cultural and exchange programming that highlights shared values and promotes bilateral cooperation. All programs must include an American cultural element, or connection with American expert/s, organization/s, or institution/s in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of U.S. policy and perspectives.

The Democracy and Human Rights Fund II (DHRF II) is one of a variety of programs used by the U.S. government (USG) to promote and defend civil and political rights, strengthen democratic institutions and civil society, and foster democratic values and practices in the states of Sub-Saharan Africa.
