Partnering to Achieve Epidemic Control in Lesotho

The United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) is the U.S. government’s initiative to help save the lives of those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS around the world. PEPFAR is the largest commitment by any nation to address a single disease in the world. Since it was first created in 2003, PEPFAR has received significant bipartisan support across four presidential administrations.

Through PEPFAR, the United States works closely with governments, people living with HIV, people affected by HIV, civil society, and NGOs to work towards ending the HIV epidemic. This is a unique moment in history, we now have the tools to control.

PEPFAR’s activities are fully aligned with the UNAIDS 95-95-95 goals that have been identified as the key and achievable targets for controlling the HIV epidemic by the end of 2025.

Working in over 50 countries, PEPFAR has saved and improved millions of lives, prevented millions of HIV infections, and changed the course of the global HIV/AIDS epidemic.

The United States is proud to support Lesotho’s leadership in the global HIV/AIDS response. PEPFAR provides direct service delivery and technical assistance support in Lesotho to maximize the quality, coverage, and impact of the national HIV/AIDS response.

GHSD/ PEPFAR High-Level Strategic Objectives (2026 – 2030)

The United States Government is supporting the Government of Lesotho to achieve the following health objectives between 2026 and 2030: 
  • Strengthen national surveillance and outbreak response capacity. 
  • Build a resilient, quality-assured national laboratory network. 
  • Ensure secure, efficient, and accountable health commodity supply chains. 
  • Transition and sustain a nationally financed frontline health workforce. 
  • Establish integrated, interoperable national health data systems. 
  • Transition from donor-driven to government-led strategic investments. 
  • Institutionalize and sustain HIV, TB, and public health program gains.
