Through the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) program, the State Department supports Montenegro’s efforts to investigate, prosecute, and adjudicate transnational organized crime and narcotics trafficking. Together with its Montenegrin partners, INL Podgorica supports police, prosecutors, defense attorneys, citizens, and judicial officials in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities, all of which helps make American and America safer.
Embassy Podgorica’s INL programs help Montenegro’s transition to a more effective criminal justice system, essential to the ongoing fight against narcotics trafficking, organized crime, and other criminal activities that endanger American lives and interests. Currently, INL has a Director, a Criminal Justice Advisor, a local Legal Specialist, a Program and Budget Specialist, and a Program Assistant. INL supports police both directly and through the U.S. Department of Justice’s International Criminal Investigative Training and Assistance Program (ICITAP). Together, INL and ICITAP partner with key Montenegrin, international, and American criminal justice experts to provide targeted technical assistance, training, case advice and other assistance.
