Public Diplomacy Grants
The U.S. Mission Nigeria’s Public Diplomacy (PD) Grants are designed to promote U.S.-Nigeria shared values and strengthen people-to-people relationship. Public Diplomacy Sections (PDS) of the Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos award limited grant funding to individuals, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, and other civil society entities through an openly competed Notice of Funding Opportunity process. Priority areas of funding are all classified under the broad U.S. Mission Nigeria Integrated Country Strategy goals:
- Support Stronger Democratic Institutions, Governance, and Respect for Human Rights
- Increase Mutually Beneficial Trade and Investment and Strengthen Human Capital for Inclusive Nigerian Economic Growth and Human Development
- Protect against Security Threats to U.S. Borders and interests and further Nigerian Unity Peace and Stability

Activities that are not funded include, but are not limited to:

- Social welfare projects;
- Tuition assistance;
- Individual travel to conferences;
- Construction projects;
- Completion activities for projects begun with other funds;
- Projects that are inherently political in nature or that convey partisan support to an individual or single party electoral campaigns; and,
- Political party activities.

Ambassador's Small Grant Program
Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Program
The Ambassador’s Special Self Help (ASSH) program is a grassroots assistance program that funds grants for small development activities that generate public awareness of U.S. foreign assistance efforts which fall outside the structure of other established U.S. assistance projects. The program is intended to be flexible and allow the Ambassador to respond directly to requests from local communities for assistance with projects that have immediate impact, and further Mission priorities. Equally important, the Special Self-Help program is structured to encourage communities to be self-reliant and undertake similar activities on their own in the future.
Currently we do not have an open call for proposals for this program, but please watch this space and follow the U.S. Mission on social media for information on upcoming opportunities.
PEPFAR Small Grants Program
The PEPFAR Coordination Office awards a limited number of grants to non-governmental organizations and other civil society entities in support of human rights for key populations (KPs). The grants advance PEPFAR’s overarching goal of ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, also known as PEPFAR, is U.S. Government’s response to the global AIDS epidemic and represents the largest commitment by any nation to address a single disease in history.

PEPFAR Small Grants Program NOFO – Community-Led Monitoring (CLM)
CLM is a community initiated, client-centered, evidence-based approach to facilitate continuous and convenient access to HIV services for people living with HIV.
PEPFAR’s objectives for the program are; to assess barriers to HIV service access and uptake from the perspectives of people living with HIV (“client”); to evaluate gaps in delivery, which negatively impacts treatment adherence, from the client’s perspective; to identify actionable recommendations and deploy mitigants for needs and gaps identified. To achieve these objectives, PEPFAR awards a limited number of grants to not-for profit organizations with capabilities to work to implement CLM. This would include the capability to monitor HIV service delivery at the health facility level. It would include the capability to routinely and systematically gather crucial information and observations about the quality and accessibility of HIV services from the client’s perspective. It would involve the capacity to work with PEPFAR teams and implementing partners to facilitate joint action that would help to improve the quality and accessibility of HIV services and ultimately the patient experience and patient outcomes. The program advances PEPFAR’s overarching goal of ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
