The Fulbright Specialist Program is a unique opportunity for U.S. academics and established professionals to engage in two to six-week, project-based exchanges at host institutions across the globe on a cost share basis. This is an opportunity for PNG institutions/ organizations to apply for the short-term engagement of a Specialist under the annual United States Fulbright Specialist Program. The Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (Fulbright TEA) brings international, secondary-level teachers to the United States for a six-week program. Teachers take academic seminars for professional development at a host university. They observe classrooms and share their expertise with teachers and students at the host university and at local secondary schools.

BridgeUSA STEM Summer Camp Training and Development Exchange Program

The BridgeUSA STEM Summer Camp Training and Development Exchange program aims to offer an opportunity for participants to receive training on the mechanisms behind youth STEM summer camps hosted at a U.S. institution of higher education. This program will provide a comprehensive experience for the participants to gain knowledge and skills necessary to develop and implement youth STEM summer programs at their home institutions. Exchange visitors will be placed at either the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) or Sam Houston State University (SHSU) and paired with U.S. faculty members in STEM to promote collaboration on research and training. Virtual programming will occur before and after the exchange. The program will fully support and fund up to 12 participants in 2025 from eligible countries in Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, and Western Hemisphere.  For selected candidates, scholarship funds cover program placement fees, international airfare, health insurance, and SEVIS/visa fees.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program is for citizens of Papua New Guinea. This ten-month fellowship consists of academic coursework and an internship in a relevant professional organization. Global UGRAD Program

The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) provides a diverse group of emerging student leaders with a scholarship for one semester of non-degree academic study at a U.S. college or university. Global UGRAD is  a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State and aims to recruit participants from underrepresented backgrounds who have not had other opportunities to study in the United States. Successful applicants can expect an in-depth exposure to U.S. society, culture, and academic institutions, as well as opportunities to enhance their professional skills.

STUDY OF THE U.S. INSTITUTES FOR SCHOLARS

Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSIs) for Scholars and Secondary Educators are post-graduate level academic programs for mid-career foreign scholars, faculty, practitioners, and secondary educators whose purpose is to strengthen curricula and to improve the teaching about the United States in academic institutions abroad. SUSIs for Scholars are six-weeks long; SUSIs for Secondary Educators are five-weeks. These Institutes are comprised of a four to five-week academic residency and a one to two-week educational study tour to a different region of the United States. During the Institutes, scholars engage in rigorous academic coursework and panel discussions, interact and establish networks with American scholars, meet with experts in respective disciplines, visit civic institutions, and in some cases, participate in research symposia and conferences.

U.S. SOUTH PACIFIC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

USSP provides students with full tuition, fees, books, housing, health insurance, stipend, and travel to and from their home station.  Students from PNG and Vanuatu are eligible for the scholarship, and they can use it to pursue graduate study at the University of Hawaii at Manoa or undergraduate study at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
