Demonstration Alert

Location: Plaza Uruguaya, Plaza de Armas, Plaza de la Democracia, and National Congress in Asuncion, as well as major meeting points in other cities
Event: There are planned protests in Asuncion, as well as calls for protests in other Paraguayan cities, against proposed reforms to the pension system. The gatherings are planned to begin in the three plazas as early as 7:00 am. Protesters plan to march from the plazas to the National Congress building during the morning. The National Police have announced they will have a significant presence in the area beginning at midnight.
Actions to Take:
- Demonstrations can be unpredictable; avoid areas around protests and demonstrations.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Follow the directions of local authorities and in case of emergency, call 911.
