Depending on the state in which you are eligible to vote, you may get your ballot by email, fax, or internet download.<\/p>\n<p>To start, go to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fvap.gov\/\">FVAP website<\/a>\u00a0to complete a new Federal Post Card Application (FPCA). \u00a0Print and sign the form, then return it to your local election office in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure that you receive ballots for all elections,\u00a0we recommend U.S. citizens to submit a new Federal Post Card Application in January of each year and whenever they move or change their mailing address, e-mail address or name.<\/p>\n<p>If you request electronic delivery for your Federal Post Card and include your email address or fax number, you\u2019ll receive your blank ballot 45 days before general and mid-term elections, and 30 days before special, primary, and run-off elections for federal offices. \u00a0Most states now have voter registration verification websites, and many offer means to track the status of your registration and ballot.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure you are registered with our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/step.state.gov\/step\/\">Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Click on the following items for additional information on each of them:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t<\/div>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section  class=\"ga-content-block stacking-slide white-section-background-color paragraphsection\">\n\t<div class=\"paragraph alignwide container meta-info-top\">\n\n\t\t\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t<div class=\"paragraph alignwide container\">\n\n\t\t<div class=\"row\">\n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"toptitle\">Information about Voting from Outside the United States<\/h2>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<p><p>Please visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fvap.gov\/\">www.fvap.gov<\/a>\u00a0to know how to contact your local election officials.<\/p>\n<p>Send your ballot back to the United States as early as possible. Overseas voters have a number of options for returning ballots:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>U.S. Embassy<\/strong>\u00a0 You can drop off your ballot request or voted ballot at the U.S. Embassy Montevideo main entrance gate (e-mail:\u00a0 <a href=\"mailto:VoteMontevideo@State.gov\">VoteMontevideo@State.gov<\/a>\u00a0for any questions), Mondays through Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (allow up to one month for delivery). Ballots must be placed in postage paid return envelopes or in envelopes bearing sufficient U.S. domestic postage so they may be delivered to the proper local election authorities (NOTE: postage from COUNTRY to the United States is not required using this method).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fax, e-mail, or internet<\/strong>\u00a0 A number of states allow the electronic return of voted ballots. Visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fvap.gov\/\">www.fvap.gov<\/a>\u00a0for electronic transmission options for your state.<\/li>\n<li><strong>International mail or professional courier service<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>FPCA Postage \u2013 Paid Return Envelope<\/strong>\u00a0 Embassy Montevideo can only receive and mail your vote if it comes in<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fvap.gov\/uploads\/FVAP\/Forms\/fpca_envelope.pdf\">\u00a0this envelope<\/a>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t<\/div>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section  class=\"ga-content-block stacking-slide white-section-background-color paragraphsection\">\n\t<div class=\"paragraph alignwide container meta-info-top\">\n\n\t\t\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t<div class=\"paragraph alignwide container\">\n\n\t\t<div class=\"row\">\n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"toptitle\">Registration\/Absentee Ballot Request<\/h2>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<p><p>To complete and submit the form, go to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fvap.gov\/\">Federal Voting Assistance Program\u2019s Voting Assistance Guide<\/a>, select your state, and follow the steps indicated in the guide to obtain the information you need. class=\"row\">\n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"toptitle\">Receiving your Blank Absentee Ballot<\/h2>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<p><p>Forty-five days before the November general elections, your state will either send your blank ballot to you electronically, or mail it to the address you provided on your FPCA.<\/p>\n<p>Ballots are generally mailed out 30 days before primary, special, and run-off elections. \u00a0Depending on your state and your status abroad, you may receive absentee ballots for all elections or abbreviated ballots for elections for federal offices only.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t<\/div>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section  class=\"ga-content-block stacking-slide white-section-background-color paragraphsection\">\n\t<div class=\"paragraph alignwide container meta-info-top\">\n\n\t\t\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t<div class=\"paragraph alignwide container\">\n\n\t\t<div class=\"row\">\n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"toptitle\">Using an Emergency Write-in Ballot<\/h2>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<p><p>If you followed all the right steps but still haven\u2019t received your ballot 30 days before the election, you should complete and submit a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fvap.gov\/\">Federal Write-in Absentee Ballot (FWAB)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Write in the candidates of your choice, print it, sign it and send it to your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fvap.gov\/\">local election officials<\/a>. \u00a0If your regular absentee ballot arrives later, fill it out and send it back too. \u00a0Your FWAB will be counted only if your regular ballot doesn\u2019t reach your local election officials by your state\u2019s deadline. \u00a0Following this procedure will not invalidate your vote or result in two votes being cast.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t<\/div>\n\n<\/section>\n\n\n<section  class=\"ga-content-block stacking-slide white-section-background-color paragraphsection\">\n\t<div class=\"paragraph alignwide container meta-info-top\">\n\n\t\t\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t<div class=\"paragraph alignwide container\">\n\n\t\t<div class=\"row\">\n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"toptitle\">Voting Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<p><p>Almost all U.S. citizens 18 years old or older who reside outside the United States are eligible to vote absentee for candidates for federal offices in U.S. primary and general elections. \u00a0In addition, some states allow overseas citizens to vote for candidates for state and local offices, as well as in state and local referendums.<\/p>\n<p>For information regarding your specific state, visit the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fvap.gov\/\">Federal Voting Assistance Program\u2019s Voting\u00a0Assistance Guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For voting purposes, your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fvap.gov\/\">state of legal residence<\/a>\u00a0is generally the state where you resided immediately before leaving the United States, even if you no longer own or rent property or intend to return there in the future. \u00a0Twenty-four states\u00a0and the District of Columbia specifically allow U.S. citizens who have never resided in the United States to class=\"toptitle\">Verifying your Registration<\/h2>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<p><p>Most states now have websites where you can verify your registration. \u00a0If you are unsure of your voter registration status, or want to confirm that local election officials have received and approved your registration, check the FVAP website for a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fvap.gov\/\">directory of state voter registration verification websites<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You can also e-mail or call your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fvap.gov\/\">local election
