Showers and Storms in the East; Dangerously Hot and Dry in the West

Scattered showers and storms are expected across portions of the Central and Eastern U.S. through the end of the week. Meanwhile, dangerous heat will intensify across the Desert Southwest and Intermountain West. Hot, dry weather and increasing winds will allow elevated wildfire conditions to return to the northern Intermountain West, where air quality issues persist from ongoing fires. Read More >

The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities is responsible for providing fire weather forecasts for eastern Iowa, northwest Illinois and northeast Missouri. The fire weather service program provides spot forecast services for the prevention, suppression, and management of forest and rangeland fires.

Fire Weather Watch or Red Flag Warning

Issued for extreme fire danger conditions. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are occurring now or will develop shortly. A combination of strong wind, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures will contribute to extreme and explosive fire growth behavior. A Fire Weather Watch means high potential exists for these rapid fire growth conditions within the next 12-36 hours.
