Extreme Heat Continues; Severe Thunderstorms into Upper Midwest; Strong Bering Sea Storm

Wildfires and poor air quality continue for the Pacific Northwest, Rockies and extended into the Plains. Severe thunderstorms possible for the northern Plains and upper Midwest on Monday along a frontal boundary. Look Before You Lock!

A Heat Advisory is in effect for far western NM, including Gallup and Farmington today.

Monday will be very hot with high temperatures up to 14 degrees above average. Record highs will likely be broken throughout much of western and northern New Mexico.

Unusually hot temperatures will persist through early week. Chances for storms will be lower through early week and generally favor the western and northern mountains.

Never, never, never leave children, disabled or elderly adults, or pets in parked, unattended vehicles! Studies have shown that the temperature inside a parked vehicle can rapidly rise to dangerous levels for people and pets. Leaving the windows slightly open does not significantly decrease the heating rate. The effects can be more severe on children because their bodies have not developed the ability to efficiently regulate internal temperature.
