Emergency Contacts

Emergency situations include the death of an American citizen, the arrest of an American citizen and the loss/theft of an American passport, when travel must take place before the next working day.  Generally, an emergency is defined as a life or death situation that requires immediate assistance.

  • State Department’s Citizen Emergency Center: (202) 647-5225 or toll-free from within the U.S. at 1-888-407-4747. The State Department will relay the message to consular officers in the country in which the U.S. citizen is traveling. Consular officers will try to locate him or her, pass on urgent messages, and, consistent with the Privacy Act, report back to you.

Fire, Police, and Other Emergency Services

Just as in the United States, Armenia uses 911 to handle all types of emergency situations.  At this telephone number, operators do speak English, so American citizens should not hesitate to call immediately if they are the victim of a crime, witness a crime, spot a fire, need an ambulance, etc.  There are also specific numbers to reach specific types of assistance directly, but the operators may not speak English.  These are 101 for fire, 102 for the police, 103 for ambulance service, and 104 for gas leaks.
