For immediate assistance within Australia, dial 000 (triple zero) to be connected with the police, ambulance or fire brigade.

In the event of an emergency involving an American citizen that requires urgent consular assistance, please call the U.S. Consulate General serving your district. Please note that the Embassy and Consulates General are closed over the weekend and on Australian and U.S. public holidays.

 

Emergencies include:
  • the death, arrest or serious injury/illness of an American citizen,
  • victims of serious crime (see our information for victims of crime abroad)
  • the loss/theft of a U.S. passport and travel is scheduled within the next 10 business days.

 

Emergencies do not include:
  • Enquiries about U.S. visas (including green cards and naturalization),
  • Routine passport or citizenship enquiries, such as updates on an application
  • Notary, taxation, or federal benefits questions.
