Adult Literacy Program
The Adult Literacy Program at Azusa City Library is committed to providing high quality services for adults 18 years and older to transform their lives and help them take one step closer to reaching their educational and personal goals. We offer these services:
- Grassroots ESL – conversation, reading, and writing practice for English as a Second Language learners
- Inspired Citizenship in English, Spanish, and Bilingual (English/Spanish) – U.S. civics, interview, and exam preparation
- Literacy in English or Spanish – reading and writing support in your first language
- Career Online High School Diploma Program (COHS) – earn your accredited high school diploma in 18 months or less online

Our Origin
In 2016, Azusa City Library received a Sparks! Ignition grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The grant focus was to explore the dynamics and pathway necessary for us to shift from a collaboration between local organizations to an effective partnership to provide English as a Second Language instruction throughout the community. In other words, our goal was to move our program, Grassroots ESL, from being “the library’s program,” to being “the community’s program,” with shared ownership and responsibility.
