Volunteer

Over 10 million adults in California function at or below basic literacy levels. They may not have the skills required to find jobs, engage in their child’s education, or participate in community activities. However, once they start to learn, they become lifelong learners.

The Adult Literacy Program is always excited to welcome new prospective volunteer tutors. Examples of things tutors have done include:

  • Help learners practice their English conversation skills
  • Conduct mock interviews for Inspired Citizenship learners in English or Spanish
  • Facilitate a session to help learners strengthen their reading, writing, and grammar skills in English
  • Work with a learner to meet career, education or personal goals
  • Assist Spanish speakers with low literacy to build their reading and writing skills
  • Become an ambassador for our program
