WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive four grants totaling $2,447,031 from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that Dr. Xiaolei Huang, a professor of computer science at the University of Memphis, will receive a grant of $528,137 from the National Science Foundation. His project, creating a smart sensing network for precision soybean breeding, is in collaboration with the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that Dr. Thomas Goebel of the University of Memphis Center for Earthquake Research and Information will receive a grant of $272,211 from the National Science Foundation. His research project will attempt to answer the question: Why are earthquake foreshocks rare in nature?

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive two grants from the National Cancer Institute and that the University of Memphis will receive one grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today voted against the massive, $1.15 trillion National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which included the SAVE Act requiring proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections, a major Trump priority.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will receive a grant of $515,504 from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for research on yeast transcription under the direction Dr. Tanja Mittag of the Department of Structural Biology. Yeast cells are one of the model systems in the field of genetics. Better understanding the components in the pathway which facilitates DNA transcription to mRNA and then into protein is crucial for understanding our own biology.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today questioned expert witnesses at a House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence hearing on “Emerging Threats 25 Years after 9/11.”

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the Lieutenant Colonel Luke J. Weathers Veterans Administration Medical Center in Memphis will receive $8,302,004 in infrastructure improvements in the third quarter of this fiscal year.
