Federal Benefits Unit

Please contact us by phone: (506) 2519-2228, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am through 12:00 pm or via email fbu.costarica@ssa.gov. 

Foreign Enforcement Questionnaire (FEQ):  FBU will accept the “proof of life” forms. If you did not receive your February benefit payment, your benefits have been suspended because we did not receive your Foreign Enforcement Questionnaire, SSA-7162 form (Pdf-59Kb) if: you receive payments in your own name or SSA-7161 form (Pdf-74Kb) if: you receive payments through a representative payee or are a representative payee.

To reinstate the benefits, you must take the following actions:

Most issues can be resolved without you having to visit the Federal Benefits Unit, by visiting The United States Social Security Administration | SSA  site.  Many individuals without a U.S. mailing address can create a personal my Social Security account and access SSA online services. Visit Create an Account | my Social Security | SSA for information on how to create or access your, account.

If you prefer, in-person service from our specialized representatives, services are available by APPOINTMENT ONLY. You can request an appointment by phone, (506) 2519-2228 or email fbu.costarica@ssa.gov. 

We recommend that you call first or email us at fbu.costarica@ssa.gov, to obtain advice from the FBU personnel. Your email will be answered within five business days.  

Your email must contain: 

• Full Name 
• Social Security Number 
• A valid contact telephone number 
• Brief description of your request
