The Consular section provides a variety of services for U.S. citizens as well as visa services.

Note: There is limited parking available for visa applicants and visitors to the Consular Section at the U.S. Embassy. Cars parked in private parking lots of businesses located near the Embassy may be towed.

U.S.  Citizen Services

The U.S. Citizen Services Unit assists U.S. citizens with passport renewal, registration of U.S. citizens living in Croatia, reports of birth for children of U.S. citizens born in Croatia, voter registration, income tax forms, notarial services, and emergency services to U.S. citizens.

Federal Benefits Unit

The Federal Benefits Unit in Athens, Greece assists individuals resident in Croatia with questions about benefits provided by U.S. federal government agencies such as the Social Security Administration, Veterans Administration, Office of Personnel Management (civil services), and Railroad Retirement Board.

Immigrant Visa Unit

The Immigrant Visa Unit processes applications for immigrant visas by appointment only.

Nonimmigrant Visa Unit

The Nonimmigrant Visa Unit processes applications for temporary visas to the United States. These include tourist visas, business visas, student visas, and temporary work permits.
Visa applications are accepted by appointment only.

Defense Attache Office

“Representing the United States Military in Croatia”

The DAO manages bilateral defense relations with Croatia’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) to upgrade the capabilities of Croatia’s armed forces and to improve professionalism, organization, and inter-operability with NATO forces. The DAO works with the MoD to mount joint military exercises, and also organizes all ship visits by U.S. naval vessels to Croatia.

The United States Defense Attache Office (USDAO) Zagreb represents the United States Military in Croatia. The United States’ defense forces include the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Marine Corps, the National Guard, and, in particular circumstances, the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine.

Drug Enforcement Administration

The primary mission of the DEA Zagreb Country Office is to share intelligence, provide training, and give assistance to its host country partners as it relates to drug trafficking, money laundering, and narco-terrorism.

The DEA Zagreb Country Office falls under the command of the DEA Europe Region, which is based in Brussels, Belgium.  The DEA Zagreb Country Office is a regional office, and is responsible for supporting and working jointly with the countries of Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Kosovo.  Working together, the DEA Zagreb Country Office targets the major drug trafficking organizations operating in the area, and those which have connections to the United States.

Foreign Agricultural Service

The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). We provide information to buyers looking for U.S. agricultural genetics, bulk, and processed commodities, food, and beverage products.  We also gather market intelligence and offer market briefs to help U.S. firms better understand the local market.  FAS offers some capacity building and other agricultural technical assistance programs, as well as provides technical expertise in international agricultural policy and trade discussions (i.e. food security, sustainability and climate change).

Office of Defense Cooperation

The Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) represents United States European Command (EUCOM) and is responsible for coordinating security cooperation programs with the Croatian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces.  These activities include:

  • Support to Direct Commercial Sales (DCS) of U.S. defense equipment

  • State Partnership Program (SPP) with the Minnesota National Guard.

The State Partnership Program (SPP) with the Minnesota National Guard, managed by the Bilateral Affairs Officer (BAO), has been a cornerstone of the US-Croatian security cooperation relationship since its inception in 1996.

Political/Economic Office

The Political/Economic section provides official information about U.S. government decisions and policies to the Croatian government. It informs the Secretary of State about political and economic developments in Croatia to ensure that the Department of State (and the rest of the Executive Branch, including the President) has current, accurate information before formulating policies which will affect the U.S.-Croatian bilateral relationship.

Human Rights Defender

Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) peacefully protect human rights and fundamental freedoms, advocate for government transparency and accountability, promote access to justice, and expose corruption, including through investigative journalism. The U.S. Embassy in Croatia protects and supports human rights defenders in a variety of ways. International Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property (ICHIP) Office

The ICHIP program deploys DOJ Attorneys overseas to assess the capacity of law enforcement authorities throughout the region to combat cybercrime and intellectual property crime,  develop and deliver training designed to enhance the capacity of justice sector personnel to combat cybercrime and IPR crime, assist in developing or strengthening institutions dedicated to combatting cybercrime and IPR crime, monitor regional trends in cybercrimes, digital evidence and IPR crime and provide expert assistance in support of the United States’  cybercrime and IPR policies and initiatives in the region.
