The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables nationals of certain countries to travel to the United States without obtaining a visa, as long as they meet specific requirements.

Your Passport
Check your passport:
QUESTION: Is your passport electronic?

The electronic passports incorporate a chip containing biometric data of the holder.
Check if the cover of your passport shows the symbol of the chip.
- If your answer is YES, go to next question.
- If your answer is NO, you need a visa: visit the Non-immigrant visa webpage. If you hold an old-style passport, you can request a new electronic passport.
Visit or Dual Nationality of Some Countries
Check your previous trips and passports:
QUESTION:
- Are you a dual national of Cuba, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Sudan or Syria?
- Have you traveled to Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen after March 1, 2011?
- Have you traveled to Cuba on or after January 12, 2021?
- If your answer is NO to all questions, go to next question.

You Can Travel Under the VWP
If you have correctly answered all the questions, you are eligible to travel under the Visa Waiver Program.
However, the legislation requires that travelers without a visa request and obtain an online authorization called Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), issued by the Department of Homeland Security / Customs and Border Protection (DHS /CBP).
