The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders is the flagship program of the U.S. Government’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). Since 2014, nearly 5,100 young leaders from every country in Sub-Saharan Africa have participated in the Fellowship.

The four YALI Regional Leadership Centers (RLCs) provide in-person and online training throughout the year in business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership and public management. They also offer opportunities for professional development and networking.

This one–year, full scholarship program is offered to mid-level professionals who have a proven record of leadership, commitment to public service, and the capacity to take full advantage of a self-defined program of independent study at a leading U.S. university. This is not a degree-granting program, but rather is intended for professional development.

The Fulbright Foreign Student Program is designed primarily to strengthen African universities and other institutions through graduate-level training. It is a two years funding for a full-time study towards a master’s degree at a higher education institution in the United States.

The Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Program provides small grants to assist community development projects that improve basic economic or social conditions in local communities across Madagascar and the Comoros. The program aims to encourage self-reliance within local communities by providing some of the resources they need to a good idea into action.
