Foreign National Student Intern Program
The Foreign National Student Intern Program is designed for students who are Korean citizen seeking internships with U.S. Missions abroad. Students will gain valuable experience in various areas of foreign policy and management, and possible academic credit in respective institution. There are no benefits, compensation, or any future employment rights attached to student participation in the FNSIP.
Period of Internship
The internship will begin from December 2026 to February 2027 for three months. A Certificate of Internship will be issued for students who successfully complete the program.

Required Documents:
- FNSIP STATEMENT OF INTEREST – The applicant’s printed name will be accepted on the signature line.
- COLLEGE LETTER OF PERMISSION – Ink or electronic signature is required on the signature line.
- TRANSCRIPT – Must be in good academic standing. (Admission letter is accepted for Graduate students.)

Can someone who has dual citizenship apply for this program?
Dual citizens who study/live in Korea can apply to the internship as it FNSIP requires commitment of physical attendance during the internship.
Are there any internship opportunities for U.S. citizens?

I will be graduating from University/College in February 2027, am I eligible to apply?
No. An individual must be a student to be eligible for the program. An Applicant must not to have ceased to be a student during an interim between school years if the interim is not more than 5 months and if such individual shows to the satisfaction of the Embassy that the individual has a bona fide intention of continuing to pursue a course of study or training in the same or different educational institution during the school semester (or other period into which the school year is divided) immediately after the interim. I am planning on applying to graduate school or have been accepted to graduate school. Am I eligible to apply?
If you have already been accepted to a graduate school, you may apply for this program. An official admissions letter from your graduate school should be submitted along with other required documents when you submit your application.
Do I need to submit a transcript?
Yes, applicants must be in good academic standing at their current educational institution and must provide a certified transcript for verification.
What is the age requirement for the program?
Applicants must be at least 19 years of age.
I am out of the country, does the Embassy conduct interviews via phone?
Yes, we conduct phone interviews for well qualified candidates.
I am on a leave of absence from school. May I apply?
Yes, as long as you submit all necessary forms (including the “Letter of Permission”), you are eligible to apply. Applicants must not to have ceased to be a student during an interim between school years if the interim is not more than 5 months and if such individual shows to the satisfaction of the Embassy that the individual has a bona fide intention of continuing to pursue a course of study or training in the same or different educational institution during the school semester (or other period into which the school year is divided) immediately after the interim.
Is it possible to receive signatures for the “College permission form” from my exchange program?
No, the “College permission form” must be signed by the school from which you will graduate.
Can I bring my applications to the Embassy?
No, walk-in/drop-off applications are not accepted. Submit your application to SeoulFNSIP@state.gov.
I submitted my application, and the status of receipt says, “not read.” Should I send my application again?
No, if you receive an “auto reply” upon submission, it means your application has been successfully submitted.
