Connecticut farmers who suffered tens of millions of dollars in losses from floods, frost, hail, drought and other severe weather events are now one step closer to receiving long-awaited financial relief.
HARTFORD, CT — The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded Connecticut a $52.9 million Farm Recovery and Support Block Grant for eligible farmers in the state who experienced losses in 2023 and 2024 due to severe weather during that period, according to Gov. Ned Lamont.
More than a year and a half after Congress created a federal grant for smaller farming states, Connecticut finalized its $53 million allotment — and eligible farmers will soon get to apply for a portion of that disaster relief.
The state and federal agriculture agencies worked through the final steps in early July of approving the program design and executing a contract that unlocks Connecticut’s funding. The Connecticut Department of Agriculture is now working to get the application portal up and running by early fall.

The $300,000 in federal funding from FEMA will be put toward conducting a comprehensive engineering study that will evaluate existing conditions in the area and lead to identifying long-term solutions to reduce flooding, protecting homes and businesses and strengthening critical infrastructure.
