In an emergency (death, arrest, victims of violent crime) involving an American citizen living or traveling in Sri Lanka, you can reach us 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

U.S. citizen emergencies include, but are not limited to: illness, death, arrest, victims of a crime, missing persons, and parental child abduction.  

Please note that visa inquiries of any kind, questions regarding passports, and notary requests are not considered emergencies and this number should not be used these types of questions. Our regular business hours are:

  • Monday to Thursday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, excluding holidays.

Document acceptance and Passport collection: Beginning from February 08, 2025,  Passport collection and document submission process for nonimmigrant and immigrant visa has changed. U.S. Embassy Sri Lanka will not accept direct submission and delivery. Visa applicants may collect their passports and submit documents to the passport collection centers. Please register, create your profile online, and complete document delivery address registration process by selecting document/visa pick up location.
