Los Angeles County Supervisor, proudly serving the 2nd District.

Nice surprise having a quick visit from Fire Chief Nice surprise having a quick visit from Fire Chief Marrone and some of the dedicated members of our Fire Department during our all-team meeting.

Did you know that our lifeguards are a division of our Fire Department and did nearly 3,000 saves in just one weekend?

And thanks for my new safety jacket. I will wear it with pride and gratitude for the brave members of our Fire Department that show up every day to help protect communities throughout LA County.
Yesterday we helped expand new affordable broadban Yesterday we helped expand new affordable broadband services in South LA. Residents were able to get free laptops and learn about the new internet services in their area.

Through a partnership between LA County and WeLink, families now have access to affordable high-speed internet plans. For more information, visit https://www.welink.com/lacounty.

This milestone is not just about accessibility, but also opportunity.
Last night’s 2nd District Racial Justice Learning Last night’s 2nd District Racial Justice Learning Exchange (RJLE) showed us that solidarity starts with pulling up a chair and being open to listening to someone else’s lived experience.

Over 200 residents from throughout our district gathered in Hermosa Beach, not all knowing each other, but willingly rolled up their sleeves and created literal bridges, shared new insights, and danced (because joy is essential to racial justice).

By the end of the night, thanks to our dynamic panel and community partners, attendees left having pledged to keep doing this work.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this powerful event possible.

If you haven’t checked out any of our RJLE events yet, we look forward to seeing you next month.
This week, the Board approved my motion calling fo This week, the Board approved my motion calling for an independent study of how Measure B funds are distributed.

This is an important step toward ensuring taxpayer dollars deliver the greatest public benefit by strengthening access to trauma and emergency care—the very reason voters approved Measure B nearly 25 years ago.

If we’re going to closely examine the hospitals that do not receive ongoing Measure B funding but play a critical role in our trauma and emergency care system and are struggling to keep their doors open, then we must also examine the hospitals that do receive ongoing Measure B funding and are not facing the same financial challenges.

I look forward to the study’s findings and to continuing the work of identifying solutions that strengthen our countywide trauma and emergency care system.

We cannot afford to lose any hospital our residents rely on for lifesaving care.
Last night, Team Mitchell took part in National Ni Last night, Team Mitchell took part in National Night Out events throughout the 2nd District.

From Culver City to Compton, our Constituent Engagement team was out connecting with residents and local law enforcement, showing that public safety starts with fostering positive relationships with our neighbors.

This morning’s rally, before the Board vote, calls This morning’s rally, before the Board vote, calls for an independent study on how Measure B funds are allocated.

This is about accountability, equity, and fulfilling the promise voters made when they passed Measure B: a strong, sustainable trauma and emergency care system that serves every community.
The challenges facing our hospitals today look dif The challenges facing our hospitals today look different from when voters approved Measure B more than 25 years ago to help expand access to lifesaving trauma and emergency care.

From the lasting impacts of COVID-19 to federal funding cuts under H.R. 1 that is leaving thousands of LA County residents uninsured, hospitals like Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital are caring for more patients with fewer financial resources.

That's why tomorrow I'm asking the Board of Supervisors to approve an independent study for how ongoing Measure B funds are allocated.

Every hospital in our trauma care system plays a vital role. This review is about making sure Measure B continues to fulfill its purpose of supporting a strong, sustainable countywide trauma system.
