Overview

The Study of the United States Institutes (SUSI) Madeleine K. Albright Young Women Leaders Program is a 5-week summer leadership program for undergraduate women from around the world introduces participants to the leadership, values, and achievements of former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright. Participants discuss current U.S. and global women’s issues, explore civic engagement with a gender-based lens, and develop their own leadership skills and capacities.

 

The program consists of a 4-week academic residency at Saint Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana, and a five-day study tour in Washington, DC. Activities include site visits, cultural outings, and community service. Participant will develop skills in critical thinking, communication, decision-making, and grant writing.

 

All participant costs are covered for the duration of the program, including international and domestic travel, housing, meals, and health coverage.

Eligible Candidates

Eligible Candidates Must:

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of Saudi Arabia
  • Be an undergraduate female student (ages of 18-25)
  • Have at least one semester left of undergraduate studies
  • Have working-level English proficiency
  • Have little or no prior travel or study experience in the United States

Brief Personal Statement

Please write a brief personal statement (maximum one page) in English which addresses the following points:

  • Why are you applying to this program?
  • What aspect of this program particularly attracts you?
  • What do you hope to gain from this program?
  • What particular skills do you hope to develop as a result of your participation in this program?
  • What will you contribute to this program and to your cohort?
  • How does your participation in this program relate to your future goals?
  • How do you hope to use what you learn on this program when you return home?
