WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Kim Schrier (D-WA-08) joined Washington state’s Congressional delegation in a letter to President Donald Trump urging him to approve Washington state Governor Bob Ferguson’s request for an expedited Emergency Declaration for the devastating wildfires sweeping through Central and Eastern Washington state.

She made her first stop to meet with HopeSource at its construction site for Teanaway Court, an affordable housing development that will consist of 41 units and a 66-seat daycare.

King County’s life‑saving rescue helicopters are getting a major boost, thanks to more than $1 million in new federal funding that leaders said will pay off in safer, faster responses to emergencies across western Washington.
The money, secured by U.S. Rep. Kim Schrier, will upgrade one of the King County Sheriff’s Office’s (KCSO) rescue helicopters — part of the region’s only full‑time patrol and rescue air unit. The helicopter is a critical tool for hoist rescues in rugged terrain, wildfire response, flood evacuations, and other natural disasters.

A year after the Enchantments became a nationwide symbol of understaffing and overcrowding on public lands, the prized wilderness destination in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest outside of Leavenworth will see more rangers, trail crews and other stewards this year through a combination of renewed Forest Service hiring and partnership arrangements with recreation nonprofits.
