The day of your appointment

      • Bring the complete, unsigned documents to be notarized. Even if there are pages that do not require signature or seals, you must present the entire packet.
      • Present a valid government-issued ID such as a passport, driver’s license, permanent residence card or kimlik. The name on the documents must be the same as the name on your ID.
      • Pay $50 USD per signature with notary seal. Be aware that if a document requires more than one notary signature with seal, payment is required for each one. Payment can be made online at pay.gov. Notarial fees must be paid via pay.gov before your appointment. The Consulates and the Embassy no longer accept cash or credit card payments.
      • Be of sound mind and understand the document you want notarized. Consular staff is not permitted to explain contents to you or verify the completeness of the document.
      • If your notary service requires a witness, you must arrange for your own witnesses. Consular staff cannot witness your documents.

Notarial Overview

Due to limited appointment availability for a notarial service at the U.S. Embassy and Consulates, we encourage you to consider whether your document can be notarized online or by a local Turkish notary. Most U.S. states accept documents notarized online. If you choose an online notary, we encourage you to research whether they can be used in the state where your document will be filed and if any special conditions apply.

The U.S. Embassy and its consulates do not issue apostilles.  An apostille must be obtained from either the state or federal authority in the United States that issued the document.

Notarial services at the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Türkiye are for all nationalities and are by appointment only. Appointment availability is extremely limited and we are not able to offer emergency notarial appointments. Normally the document to be notarized is for use within the United States, although there may be exceptions. If you have multiple documents to be notarized, you should only make one appointment. You will pay $50 USD for each notary signature and seal required.
