Overview

The U.S. Consulate General Edinburgh provides a full compliment of U.S. Citizen services including passport, consular report of birth, and notary services. For information about all of our consular services and to book an appointment please see our U.S. Citizen Services page.

The Consulate General is open 08:30-17:00 Monday through Friday. We do not accept walk-in inquires. The U.S. Consulate General in Edinburgh is closed on all U.S. and Local public holidays.

The Consulate General in Edinburgh does not issue visas. The Embassy in London is responsible for issuing nonimmigrant and immigrant visas to residents of the United Kingdom, including Scotland. Please click here for further information.
 

 

General Emergency Information

    Dialing from the U.K.:
  • If a crime is in progress or you are in danger, you should dial 999, the emergency services telephone number in the UK. They can provide emergency police, ambulance and/or fire services.
  • You should dial 101 to report a crime that is not an emergency, to give non-emergency information to the police and to make enquiries.
Dialing from the U.S.: If you are in the U.S. and you need to contact the UK emergency services on behalf of someone in the UK:
  • Dial 011 44 999 for emergency police, ambulance and/or fire services
  • Dial 011 44 101 for non-emergency police services.

Many routine adult passport renewals can be completed by mail. Please follow the instructions on the page linked above to send any mail eligible renewals to the US Embassy in London, the centralized location for mail in renewals in the UK. Any applicant(s) who meet the criteria for a passport renewal by mail should not schedule an in-person appointment.
