November 3, 2026, General Municipal Election
The City’s General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Two City Council seats will be up for election for full four-year terms.
The filing period for nomination papers is July 13, 2026, to August 7, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. The filing period will be extended to August 12, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. if an incumbent fails to file.
Schedule an appointment to be issued nomination papers by calling the City Clerk's office at (951) 244-2955. City Hall hours, as posted, are: Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (closed Fridays). City staff will be available from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on August 7, 2026, to assist candidates with the nomination process.
General Information
The City of Canyon Lake is a General Law city governed by a five-member City Council. Members of the City Council serve staggered terms, with either two or three seats open for election every two years.The City Clerk serves as the Elections Officer and is responsible for the issuance and acceptance of nomination papers and is the official Filing Officer for campaign statements.
The City consolidates its election activities with the County of Riverside, which provides voter registration, ballot materials, vote centers and other critical election functions.
