Application Optimization Services
You want your applications to run as smoothly and efficiently as possible on HECC systems, and we’re here to help. Our application performance and productivity (APP) experts can work closely with you to improve your code runtimes—often by an order of magnitude.
We also troubleshoot issues and can improve your code using custom tools and techniques that work most effectively in the HECC environment.
Basic Services
The following application optimization services are available at no extra charge to you.
- Porting your code and workflow to HECC supercomputers from other systems
- Optimize the application build process
- Find and fix bugs, create workarounds
- Simplify your workflow
- Basic and detailed performance analysis and optimization
- Write scripts to parallelize multiple copies of serial jobs
- Reduce memory requirements, improve cache usage
- Parallelize OpenMP or MPI applications (basic)
- Use of our in-house tools for applications and job scheduling
- Get information on job startup, running jobs
- Check node availability
- Monitor memory and power usage
- Training on effective use of HECC systems, code performance analysis and debugging
- Individual training
- User webinars
- Customized optimization training for groups

Additional Services

Record of Success
Heliophysics researchers at Auburn University had difficulty scaling their 3D space simulation code. Working with the APP team, they were able to more than double their code performance, enhancing their capability to predict and accurately specify the radiation and plasma environment for satellites orbiting the Earth.
