CISE Computing and AI Foundations

The U.S. National Science Foundation Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering (NSF CISE) supports foundational research in artificial intelligence, machine learning, informatics, databases and management, algorithmic theory, communications and intelligent systems.

This work advances the core principles needed to build reliable, efficient, secure and trustworthy computing systems, including AI systems that can learn, reason, communicate and operate in complex environments. NSF CISE also supports research in data privacy and sharing, information processing, computer vision, human language technologies and computational neuroscience, helping drive scientific discovery, cybersecurity, economic growth and national prosperity.
