The data for this dashboard is from a bibliography of NOAA authored and funded peer-reviewed articles. The Library Bibliometrics Team has collected and maintained this data since FY2012.
Prior to FY2014, we collected only NOAA intramural articles that were authored by both federal and contract NOAA employees. Starting in FY2014, we also collected NOAA extramural articles published by authors who received some or all of their research funding from NOAA, though reporting on those articles did not start until FY2015.
We built the bibliography through weekly searches in the Web of Science Core Collection using a search string which is reviewed periodically for completeness and edited to reflect changes in NOAA’s organization. The results of these searches are reviewed manually by members of the Bibliometrics Team to confirm NOAA involvement. The team also adds local metadata such as fiscal year and quarter, line office and lab/division responsibility, and any available information about NOAA funding sources. Reviewed articles are added to the database in a monthly batch; data cleanup and quality control is performed monthly and quarterly.
