Projects Under Construction
NC 43 Connector
STIP Number R-4463A
Construction is underway to build the final phase of the NC 43 Highway in Craven County. Construction will join the current highway at US 70 with Highway 17 Business in New Bern along a new route. The new section will be a four lane, median divided highway with signalized intersections and interchange improvements throughout.
US 70 Improvements - "C" Section
STIP Number R-5777C
Construction is underway to upgrade US 70 to interstate standards from the Havelock Bypass to the James City Project.
US 70 Improvements - James City
STIP Number U-5713, R-5777A, R-5777B
Construction is underway to improve local and highway traffic on the 5 mile stretch of James City. The project will convert the conventional intersections to interchanges with highway exits for future Interstate 42.
Hotel Drive Safety Improvements
The intersection of Hotel Drive and US 17 Business (Dr. MLK Jr. Blvd) has construction underway to modify the current full movement intersection to a "thru-cut" intersection due to a high number of crashes. Once construction is complete, drivers will not be able to go straight across Hotel Drive. Construction began this summer and is expected to be completed by the Fall.

Miller Boulevard Widening
STIP Number U-3441
Planning and development are underway to widen Miller Boulevard and NC 101 in Havelock to four lanes with a raised median. The project aims to alleviate congestion, add capacity, and improve safety along the corridor.
Completed Projects
US 70 Improvements - Havelock Bypass
STIP Number R-1015
Construction was completed in December 2025 of the Havelock Bypass. The bypass is a four lane, median divided high speed highway which serves as an alternate route to using US 70 through Havelock.
Glenburnie Road Sidewalk Installation
In 2025, a small portion of Glenburnie Road from College Court to Greenbrier Parkway had sidewalks installed to improve connectivity from Craven Community College to nearby neighborhoods.
Neuse Boulevard Pedestrian Facilities
In 2024, multiple intersections along Neuse Boulevard received pedestrian improvements with the installation of push buttons and crosswalks.
