HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu and State of Hawaiʻi are working together to provide temporary housing options for residents whose homes were left uninhabitable following the recent Kona Low storms. The back-to-back storms caused significant damage in several communities, leaving some households unable to safely return to their homes. Temporary housing is being coordinated to ensure families have a safe place to stay while cleanup and repairs are underway.

Demolition marks next step in redevelopment of former Dee Lite Bakery site
Located at 1907 Eluwene St., directly across from the future Mokauea (Kalihi) Skyline Station, the site is being developed as part of the Blangiardi administration’s housing strategy to activate transit-oriented development areas along the Skyline rail corridor.
Koa Vista II opens 97 new affordable rental homes in Central Oʻahu
Developed by Homes Hawaii Inc. in partnership with GSF LLC, the seven-story building provides affordable rental apartments for families earning up to 80% of the area median income.
Next phase of transit-oriented redevelopment begins at former Dee Lite Bakery property
Environmental abatement is scheduled to begin during the week of July 20, 2026, followed by full building demolition beginning during the first week of August. The project is expected to take approximately two months to complete.
Planning continues for the future of Iwilei–Kūwili
Six months after launching the Iwilei–Kūwili master planning effort, the City and County of Honolulu Department of Housing and Land Management (DHLM) welcomed the consultant team back to Honolulu this week for another series of technical workshops, coordination meetings, and site visits as work continues on one of Hawaiʻi’s most ambitious transit-oriented development initiatives.
