July Climate Summary

Near record temperatures with widespread major to extreme HeatRisk can be expected through Monday. Temperatures will gradually cool this week, but still remain above normal. Storm chances through the beginning of this week will be mainly confined to the higher terrain areas of eastern and southeastern AZ, with chances increasing across the lower deserts by mid to late this week.

Extreme Heat Warnings have been extended through Tuesday for a good portion of the area as areas of Major HeatRisk will linger through at least Tuesday. High temperatures today and Monday will still easily exceed 110°F across the lower deserts, but some gradual cooling will occur over the next several days. Although daytime temperatures will start to go down, moisture and humidity will increase likely leaving it to feel just as hot through at least Tuesday.

Dangerously hot temperatures are in the forecast through the weekend. Learn to recognize the signs of heat-related illness before they happen, and don't underestimate the heat! It is the deadliest weather-related phenomenon.

All three official climate sites (Phoenix, Yuma, and El Centro) had above average temperatures & below normal precipitation this July. This July was also the 5th hottest on record for both Yuma and El Centro and was the 6th hottest on record for Phoenix.
