Consular Section

Consular Section in San Salvador provides the following services abroad to its citizens:

Passport and notarial services require an appointment except qualified adult passport renewal by mail applications, which can be completed via courier service.

The American Citizen Services (ACS) Unit does not handle visa inquiries or any other immigration benefit. For visa questions (Immigrant and Non-Immigrant) you may visit the Visa Services Page.

To apply for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA), please visit American Citizen Services.

The Department of State manages the visa process strictly but fairly in order to best protect the United States.  We are committed to the essential openness for which the United States has always been known.  Travel to the United States is welcomed and encouraged.

Economic Section

The Economic Section works with the Government of El Salvador, the Salvadoran private sector, and U.S. businesses and groups on policies and programs related to the economy.

Our goals include: Promoting sustainable economic growth and development, trade and a healthy investment environment; supporting the development of well-functioning regulatory systems; protecting intellectual property; advocating for U.S. companies to ensure transparency and fair play; and deepening cooperation on issues including the environment and transportation safety. Our staff includes Americans and Salvadorans working to advance our mutual interest.

Public Diplomacy Section

The Public Diplomacy Section manages all press, cultural, information and education programs of the U.S. government in El Salvador with the purpose of strengthening understanding of the United States and its policies.

  • Public Diplomacy Counselor Sean McIntosh

Under his supervision, the Public Diplomacy Section conducts a variety of programs with different sectors of the Salvadoran community including the press, government, private sector, universities, museums and other cultural organizations.

  • Press Attaché Tim Brown

The Press Attaché works directly with the Salvadoran mass media. His office organizes briefing reports for journalists covering the Embassy, and disseminates statements made by U.S. government officials.

  • Cultural Attaché Jessica Padron

The Cultural Attaché coordinates the activities of the Embassy’s Cultural Section. This section is responsible for academic and professional exchanges between the U.S. and El Salvador. She coordinates a speakers’ program, works with museums and other cultural institutions, organizes seminars, and occasionally sponsors cultural events.

Political Section

The Political Section’s primary responsibility is to keep the Department of State informed regarding the current political situation in El Salvador, and to advance bilateral foreign policy goals.

Political Officers analyze political developments and their potential impact on U.S. interests; promote adoption by the host country of foreign policy decisions in support of U.S. interests; and advise U.S. business executives on the local political climate.

In addition, the section follows closely democracy and rule of law issues, including extradition, human rights, labor rights, trafficking in persons, and anti-narcotics cooperation.

U.S. Military Group

U.S. Military Group El Salvador conducts security cooperation activities in El Salvador and the region in collaboration with domestic and international partners in order to foster security, ensure stability, and promote prosperity throughout Central America.  We accomplish this by building partner capacity, fostering positive relationships, and advising senior leaders.

The largest investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security, HSI is responsible for identifying and shutting down vulnerabilities in the nation’s border, economic, transportation and infrastructure security. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations’ (ERO) mission is to protect the homeland through the arrest and removal of those who undermine the safety of our communities and the integrity of our immigration laws.

As part of its critical mission, ERO manages all aspects of the immigration enforcement process, including the identification, arrest, detention and removal of aliens who are subject to removal or are unlawfully present in the U.S.
