Engineering Division Vision, Mission, Values

The Engineering Division (ED) utilizes the Department's Performance Improvement Model (PIM) as the framework for achieving its vision, mission & values. The ED will promote career development, provide training opportunities, provide challenging and diverse assignments, be consistent in our personnel actions, create an enjoyable work environment, recognize and appreciate our accomplishments, encourage independent thinking, and act as a team in all that we do.

Vision - We are a leading edge team of motivated, empowered, and respected professionals whose customers value our high quality engineering and technical services and products.

Mission - We develop and deliver transportation projects, provide related specialty expertise, develop and issue technical policies, standards and guidance, and provide technical training for ourselves and our stakeholders.

Values - The values of the Engineering Division are:

Office of Technical Services

The Office of Technical Services provides the science that makes department products and services better.  From innovative foundations, too new materials, through extensive data gathering, to research into cutting edge ideas, the Office of Technical Services works hard to ensure that our work is done smart and done right.

The Office of Design includes surveying, drafting, specifications and standards, landscape architecture, accessibility planning, cost estimating, utilities, project planning and project-specific public coordination, in addition to providing a broad-range project design guidance and execution.


Office of Right of Way

The Office of Right of Way is responsible for obtaining the land needed for projects and for disposing of any unused partial areas that will not be needed.


Office of Environment

The Office of Environment provides guidance, leadership and expertise on environmental stewardship and the evaluation of present and future environmental effects due to projects and the operation of facilities. This includes potential effects on noise, water quality, energy, wetlands, air quality, and cultural resources among other aspects of the natural and built environment.


Office of Structures

The Office of Structures is responsible for almost all aspects of bridge evaluation, design, quality assurance and construction support. The office also is typically responsible for large sign structures and larger culverts.

The Office of Construction assists the Regions in implementing contractual transportation improvement projects by establishing policy and procedures for contract administration and construction inspection, ensuring safety and health policies, and maintaining environmental and civil rights standards.
