The Transportation Enhancement Program (TEP)
Eligible Project Types
TEP projects must fall into one or more of the following Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) categories to be eligible for funding:
- Provision of Facilities for Bicycles and Pedestrians
- Scenic and Historic Highway Programs
(eligibility requires either inclusion of the National Registry of Historic Places or eligibility status for inclusion by the State Office of Historic Preservation.)

Landscaping and Other Scenic Beautification

Preservation of Abandoned Railway Corridors (Including Conversion and Use for Pedestrian and Bicycle Trails)

Environmental Mitigation to Address Water Pollution Due to Highway Runoff or Reduce Vehicle-caused Wildlife Mortality while Maintaining Habitat Connectivity
In addition to meeting one or more of the categories listed above, the project must have a transportation relationship with the surface transportation system and must be available for public access and use.
